The Barn

The Barn

The main barn at Maggie's is the busy hub of the working farm. The enormous sliding door to the West opens onto stalls for the work horses and milk cow and seasonal lambing pens. Above that, the loft holds up to a thousand bales which, when cleared out, reveal a basketball net for early spring games before the ground thaws. Both fencing equipment and garden supplies find a home up here as well, launching countless projects into the fields. An open bay in the middle is perfect for laying out carpentry projects when the weather brings you inside.

Down below, double sliding doors to the South open into the former stanchion barn for dairy cows that has been converted to accommodate veggie production, with a wash-up station on one side and a large walk-in cooler on the other. On even the hottest summer harvest days, here all is a cool hive of activity: trucks pull in from the fields and overflowing boxes of sun-warm veggies are dunked into refreshing barrels of water before being packed in CSA boxes and stored in the cooler.
